Fund-raising

MalDent Student Aid is a charitable organisation based in Glasgow, Scotland. Its primary function is fund-raising to help students who are studying on the Bachelor of Dental Surgery programme at the Kamuzu University of Health Sciences and who require some additional financial support.

We fund-raise in multiple ways including sponsored sporting, social and musical events as well as donations collected through this web-site.

Dentist-to-Dentist Student Support Fund

We have established a fund in Malawi called ‘Dentist-to-Dentist’ which operates an auditable financial support programme for dental students who are struggling to meet the combined costs of their tuition fees, accommodation and subsistence. The fund mirrors a similar programme called ’Medic-to-Medic’ that supports medical students.

The MalDent Student Aid partnership with Dentist-to-Dentist

On a bi-annual basis, MalDent Student Aid provides a donation to the National Bank Welfare Account that has been established to distribute bursaries through the Dentist-to-Dentist programme. These donations provide a regular source of income to help maintain support for the dental students who are identified as recipients.

Identification of those students who will receive support is undertaken solely by a small committee of staff at Kamuzu University of Health Sciences, with regular feedback to MalDent Student Aid on disbursements.
